2020 ESRIC Business League returns

A Perfect Day to Play Golf and Network

84 golfers swapped their suits and jeans for golf T-shirts when the 2020 ESRIC Golf Business League commenced at The Royal Swazi Spa Golf course on Wednesday 16 January. The weather was slightly overcast, the fairways were orderly and the greens were immaculate: It was the perfect day to play golf.

The 84 golfers represent 42 teams – companies doing business in different economic sectors of the Kingdom of Eswatini. For these companies, which include but not limited to newcomers FNB, FINCORP and SRA, as well as regulars Standard Bank and Eswatini Railway, golf provides a platform for sharing ideas and creating business opportunities with individuals they would have otherwise not met. So, in essence, the golf course is the birthplace of brilliant ideas.

Over the course of the tournament, wild celebrations and groans of despair could be heard in equal measure. It was evident that the stakes were high, despite this being a social tournament. Momentarily, friends had turned to foes and strangers to partners. Such is the influence of the game of golf on those who have opportunity to play it.

Four and a half hours later, all the golfers were done and were back at the club house. This is probably the best time for most golfers: Those who played well get the opportunity to celebrate, gloat and brag while those who weren’t that fortunate get to drown their sorrows and hope to forget the round as soon as possible. But all in all, it’s about laughter, business appointments, handshakes and planning of next golf tournaments. This is exactly where your opponent becomes your business partner.

Congratulations to Richard Dlamini and Eerfan Dada of Manyatsi Nhleko QS-A, for winning 1st prize in this edition, on an excellent score of 76 points. They were closely followed by Peter Dlamini and Valentine Maziya of ERG-A on 74 points. Congratulations are also on order for Phumlile Zwane who topped the ladies present on the day on a good score of 31 points.

ESRIC is proud to be the leading supporter of the golf sport in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Beyond that, the corporation is pleased to play a role in the creation of partnerships and business opportunities for the very organizations that drive the local economy, thereby improving the standard of living of EmaSwati.

The next edition of this tournament is scheduled for 19 February 2020. You can expect more celebrations and groans, together with more business partnerships.
